Delicious Does Betty

Halloween weekend started when me and Anne went to my friend's housewarming in BedSty (Brooklyn) where I went as Ugly Betty. Funny thing is, no one seemed to notice I was in a costume. Maybe that's because A) I'm too cute to ever be ugly or B) I looked like all the other hipsters at the party. People kept telling me they liked my glasses (which had no lenses) and that they liked my outfit. Oh those hipsters!

Case in point. This get up works in Brooklyn. I should also add that these are my regular clothes.

Later on that night, we met up with Justin at a bar where his housemate was hosting a party. I looked like I was in a costume there but even then people kept saying they liked my glasses. I guess I do nerd really well.

Saturday went to another party where the costumes were awesome but the music was lame. My friend who sent me the flyer said her boyfriend was deejaying and there would be a Michael Jackson impersonator. I hope that deejay wasn't her boyfriend because he didn't play anything good all night AND the MJ impersonator was some weirdo in a peacoat and aviator glasses. When has MJ ever worn a frigin peacoat?

This couple had the best costume I have ever seen.

Left the place with bad music and headed to One and One which is decent for mainstream hiphop. Alison as Alison and Anne as Anne.

And it's not even Halloween yet! Will get my PG work costume ready.

That Great Ape

I just finished watching the greatest love story in the history of the universe, King Kong. Yup, I cried like a baby. I rented King Kong because I wanted to see more of Adrian Brody after watching Darjeeling Limited. There's something about him, his swagger, his bravado, his machismo that I find irresistible until of course I saw Kong. Man oh man, did that ape love her! And man oh man is my taste wacky.

I'm really enjoying the soundtrack to Darjeeling especially the French song at the end and everything by the Kinks.

There's a bunch more stuff on my flickr site although I must say, as someone who catalogs and organizes information for a living, flickr sucks. I'm only allowed three sets and a max of 200 photos just because I refuse to pay for a Pro account?!!! Whatever. I also didn't have the patience to go through and label ANYTHING but I think the Chicago set is worth a look. It'll distract you for about 5 minutes.

What else? I'm reading The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay and Michael Chabon's new book The Yiddish Policeman's Union is getting rave reviews and I should know because I just edited one of them at work today. Fun! Chabon might be my new hero since I just learned that he wrote a short story for McSweeney's in 2002 called The Final Solution where he resurrected the character of Sherlock Holmes. Man oh man, I needs to get me a copy of that and read it while wearing my Sherlock Holmes hat which people can confirm actually exists.

Am also newly obsessed with Ira Glass. At my former temp job, I had the leisure of listening to my iPod for eight hours and caught up on This American Life podcasts. I soooo heart him and heart him even more after seeing him at Moma last week where he showed up for a CMJ event.

Can you tell that's him? Trust me it was.

And here's Tusky modeling Ira-like glasses (hahahaha) which are part of my 2007 Halloween costume.

Where's Nina?

They say blogging is like riding a bike or do they? I was afraid that perhaps Blogger may have taken down D.E.L.I.C.I.O.U.S. because it's been 74 days since I last posted anything. WOW. What should have been 74 days of blogged history of my move to New York is sadly all in my head or on my camera. A lot has happened since August 6th, I mean I should hope so or else I have no excuse for neglecting my beloved blog. The most recent purging of pictures from my camera to my external hard drive produced a whopping 537 images. They range from Atlantic City to Chicago to Spring Awakening to Bloody Beers. I will definitely be putting everything on flickr by next week.

But in the meantime, here's a taste:

(Dude, I just noticed that the Blogger tool bar now has a video feature. Awesome!!!!!!)

Meet her highness Tuscany aka Husky Tusky aka Tusky aka Grumpypants (but she can't help it, that's just her face!)
My roommate Kim texted me while I was in Chicago to ask if I liked cats and if so, would it be okay if she got one. I had just moved in a few days earlier so she had no idea that I was a crazy cat lady. So Kim drove 8 hours to meet her mom halfway (mom was driving from Detroit) to pick up Tusky and now Tusky has settled herself quite comfortably and frequently in my room. Despite her frowny face, she is a very sweet cat. We also went through a flea scare which was not fun but things seem to be fine now and I have yet to develop a case of worms.

Me and Anne and 2007 Tony winner for Best Featured Actor in a Musical cutie pie John Gallagher Jr. We saw this sometime in August or maybe September and of course we did the whole standing in line for $25 front row tickets cux that's just how we roll. Jersey Boys will always have a special place in my heart but Spring Awakening was really very very good. I'm such a sucker for these Broadway stars.

Me and some moo cows at the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago. I was in Chicago for the Society for American Archivists annual meeting at the end of July. It was really very very uninteresting so me and Laura and Lauren played hooky and went sightseeing around the Windy City.

Me eating nachos in front of the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City. This was sometime in July or maybe August. Atlantic City was awesome. The beach and gambling AND buffet? What more could I ask for?

Since I now have a full time grown up job and stare at a computer all day, I must end this post for now and give my poor eyes a rest. Back to watching Ugly Betty online. HA!
