Resolutions

CRYSTAL
DUDE. I got one for us. Are you ready?

ME
Yeah, what is it?

CRYSTAL
Mate in 08! We're gonna find us mates in 08!!!!

ME
(snickers)
A mate? I'll settle for a date in 08.

CRYSTAL
(laughs)
Yeah, maybe we're aiming too high.

ME
Yeah, we don't wanna get ahead of ourselves.
Gotta take it one step at a time.

With mad dialogue writing skillz like that and friends for inspiration, I don't see how Diablo Cody is any better than me. My other New Year's Resolution: become famous.

Phew!

The last time I got completely wasted was the last weekend in July. It involved a very unfortunate incident with me sprawled out on the bathroom floor with Anne calmly urging me to get the EF up. I spent the entire next day in bed thinking about how evil and vile alcohol was and how I would never drink so much again. Right. Well, I kept my word until two nights ago.

10:39pm (according to time stamp on camera)
The night started out innocently enough with some wholesome ice skating at Rockefeller.

10:40pm
It was the perfect night for it, cold and crisp.

11:24pm
Ryan the pro.

11:24pm
Steph, also a pro.

11:25pm
Nothing pro about Arthur.

11:26pm
Although he fakes it pretty well.

11:37pm
Nice hats!

11:39pm
Hangin on.

11:55pm
LOL

2:11am
And so it begins. I can't even remember the place we were at, just somewhere in the Meatpacking. I think at this point, we had just gotten our drinks and eased our way to the dance area.

2:16am
Things are still good.

2:17am
A minute later.

2:18am
I honestly wasn't even drunk at this point. Not really sure what that look is about.

2:27am
Gettin there.

2:37am
See, still ok.

2:38am
I don't remember taking this.

2:42am
I think at this point things starting to pick up because the deejay switched from the not so fun haus/electronica/whatever stuff to hip hop.

2:44am
I really don't remember taking this and have no idea who she is.

2:52am
Pretty gone at this point.

2:54am
Yup.

2:54am
Where did Tim get the lollipop?

2:57am
Fun times.

3am
That about says it all.

Since this is the last picture, I'm assuming I was passed out by now. I vaguely remember getting sick, being in a cab and somehow, miraculously, I was able to tell Tim where I lived and he equally miraculously got me back to my apartment in one piece. I woke up around 10 with Tusky sleeping by my feet, with one shoe on, and thanking god I had the next five days off. Yea to buddies from L.A.!!!

It's Like One Giant Silverlake...

Said Arthur of NY after being here for three days.

Tim and Arthur muggin at McSorley's which should really be called McSurley's. But the surliness just adds to the authenticity.

Excellent dark beer which McWaiter slammed down onto our table.

I don't remember McSmiley's name but he's McSleepy's (Tim) cousin's boyfriend. She better watch out though because by the looks of it, he is quite captivated by Sleepy Tim.

Not a very good segue but here are pics from yesterday's McHoliday (I'll stop) Party. Delicious Italian food straight outta Yonkers. I just noticed the sign in the background that says, very clearly, not to put anything on top of the desk. LOL.

Plate one of three. My absolute new love in life is Swedish meatballs!!! I ate 7 and another 5 today.

Yeah, I got a lot of looks yesterday. A mixed bag of surprise, amusement, bemusement, and perhaps some wariness. Maybe they were just scared of my musical Santa hat.

Gift exchange. Susan got me a ceramic cat figurine. I've only been here two months and I've successfully set myself up as crazy cat lady. There must be another way to say that nicely and with less pretension. Feline enthusiast?

LOL. I got Susan the requisite NY winter fur trapper hat. She loved it so much she said she was taking it with her to Canada for Christmas.

And some of the decorations around the department.

Festive indeed.

I feel like I've been celebrating Xmas for the past two weeks now and it's still six days away.

The Shenanigans Continue

I'm fully aware that my blog has been very image heavy lately and that's because 1) NY looks good this time of year and 2) they make for quick and easy blog posts. But I'm sure there are many of you who would like to know what else I'm up to when I'm not hamming it up in my ugly sweater.

Reading: The Yiddish Policemen's Union by Michael Chabon
-just finished reading The Final Solution also by Chabon
-stopped halfway reading Wonder Boys again by Chabon (so that I could read The Yiddish)
-Yes, I really like him despite his super idiotic wife.

Am also reading Catching the Big Fish by David Lynch, crazy film director man. It's this little book about how Transcendental Meditation changed his life. He's so kooky but it's interesting because he sort of alludes to how he came up with those weird scenes in Twin Peaks and Eraserhead.

Watching: Extras Season Two
Ricky Gervais and Steve Merchant must be the funniest comedic writing duo in all of history.
Merchant as Darren the Agent is amazing and Ashley Jensen who also plays that Scottish chick on Ugly Betty is also brilliantly fantastic. Also, iTunes has new free podcasts of The Ricky Gervais Show. Go download it now!

Now that episodes of my favorite shows are definitely in reruns and the writer's strike doesn't seem to be ending anytime soon, I've had time to cultivate a whole new slew of favorites including:
30 Rock
Gossip Girl

Listening: Nina's Christmas playlist
Includes: Wham, Mariah, Barry Manilow, Stevie Wonder, among others

Musings: Why am I not "out there" dating?
Beats me. I'm a catch. Or maybe it's because of my "dour expression" or that like all New Yorkers I suffer from a "depressimistic mentality: cynicism and self-defeatism".
These quotes are from idiotic Time Out dating columnist Julia Allison. I'll link the full article once it's available.

Enough of that. Here's more pics!

Rockefeller Tree

I bought the hat solely for picture taking.

Saks across the street.

LOL ninanne new ultimate pose!

L.O.L.

Very pretty indeed. I wish I was someone important so I could cut in line and go skating.

I liked their set up last year better.

We made our way up 5th Avenue and hit upon the displays at Barney's which are more like art installations. The theme was "green". Not sure how Crocs make the planet better though...

Those are soda can lights along the bottom.

Leo and his polar bear.

Not sure what Bette contributes either.

Tonight was dinner/gift exchange night. We ate at Otto, which is Mario Batali's most affordable restaurant. This was such a good idea. I think everyone appreciated this girls night out. Me, Anne, and Kristen.

The gifts.

My pizza! Ham, chiles, butternut squash, and olives.

Anne's pizza. Potato and anchovies.

Kristen and Alison.

My favorite thing all night: the olive oil gelato!!! Also had vanilla and hazelnut. The olive oil gelato really tasted like olive oil and no, not gross at all.

Black and White something or other. Delicious.

Next up: Work Holiday Party. Everyone keeps telling me not to expect too much, that it's a very low key affair. I'm sorry but Nina and low key don't go together.
